God Makes the Seasons!

God Makes the Seasons! (Based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

Hey kids! Have you ever noticed how the weather changes? Sometimes it's super sunny and hot, perfect for playing outside in your shorts! Other times, it gets chilly and the leaves on the trees turn amazing colors. And then, sometimes it snows, and everything looks like a white wonderland! These changes are called seasons.

Did you know that God has a special plan for these seasons? The Bible tells us all about it in a book called Ecclesiastes. It says:

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:" (Ecclesiastes 3:1, ESV)

Wow! That means God decided that there would be different times for different things. Let's think about some of these times, or seasons:

A Time to Be Born, and a Time to Die: (Ecclesiastes 3:2a)

This talks about how life begins and ends. Just like a tiny seed grows into a big plant, living things have their own special time.

A Time to Plant, and a Time to Pluck Up What Is Planted:

(Ecclesiastes 3:2b)

Think about farmers! They plant tiny seeds in the spring. They water them and take care of them. Then, when the time is right, they harvest the yummy fruits and vegetables! This shows us how things grow and then are ready to be gathered.

A Time to Kill, and a Time to Heal:

(Ecclesiastes 3:3a)

This part might sound a little scary, but it can also remind us that sometimes things get broken or hurt, and then there's a time for them to get better. Think about when you get a scrape on your knee – it might hurt for a little while, but then it heals!

A Time to Break Down, and a Time to Build Up:

(Ecclesiastes 3:3b)

Have you ever built blocks and then knocked them down? That's like breaking down. But then, it's fun to build something new and even bigger! This reminds us that things change, and sometimes we need to start over and build again.

A Time to Weep, and a Time to Laugh:

(Ecclesiastes 3:4a)

Sometimes we feel sad and we might cry. That's okay! But then, something funny might happen, and we laugh! God knows that we have different feelings at different times.

A Time to Mourn, and a Time to Dance:

(Ecclesiastes 3:4b)

Mourning is when we feel sad because someone we love is gone. But then, there are also times for celebration and joy, like when we dance at a party!

A Time to Cast Away Stones, and a Time to Gather Stones Together:

(Ecclesiastes 3:5a)

Imagine throwing rocks into a pond – that's casting them away. But then, you might gather pretty stones to make a collection. This shows us how we sometimes get rid of things and sometimes we collect them.

A Time to Embrace, and a Time to Refrain from Embracing:

(Ecclesiastes 3:5b)

Sometimes we want to give someone a big hug to show them we care. That's embracing! But there might be other times when it's not the right moment for a hug.

A Time to Seek, and a Time to Lose:

(Ecclesiastes 3:6a)

Have you ever lost your favorite toy and looked everywhere for it? That's seeking! Sometimes we find what we're looking for, and sometimes we don't.

A Time to Keep, and a Time to Cast Away:

(Ecclesiastes 3:6b)

We have special things that we want to keep safe. But there might also be things that we don't need anymore, so we cast them away or give them to someone else.

A Time to Tear, and a Time to Sew:

(Ecclesiastes 3:7a)

If your clothes get ripped, you might need to sew them back together. This shows us how things can get broken, but they can also be fixed.

A Time to Keep Silence, and a Time to Speak:

(Ecclesiastes 3:7b)

Sometimes it's good to be quiet and listen. But there are also times when it's important to talk and share our thoughts.

A Time to Love, and a Time to Hate:

(Ecclesiastes 3:8a)

God wants us to love everyone! But this verse also reminds us that there are things that are wrong and harmful, and it's okay to dislike those things.

A Time for War, and a Time for Peace:

(Ecclesiastes 3:8b)

War is when people fight. But peace is when everyone gets along. God wants us to live in peace with each other.

God's Wonderful Plan for Every Time

Thinking about all these different seasons and times that God created is really amazing! It helps us understand that life isn't always the same. Sometimes things are happy, and sometimes they might be a little sad. Sometimes we're busy doing things, and sometimes it's good to be quiet and still.

Just like the seasons change outside – from sunny summer to colorful autumn, snowy winter, and then back to blooming spring – our lives also have different "seasons." There are times for playing and times for learning, times for being with friends and times for being quiet.

Knowing that God made all these times and has a plan for each one can help us feel safe and loved. Even when things are hard, we can remember that just like winter doesn't last forever, tough times don't either. God is with us through every season, and He knows what's best.

A Prayer for Little Hearts

Dear God,

Thank you for making all the different seasons and times. Thank you for the sunshine and the rain, for the times to laugh and the times to be quiet. Help us to remember that you have a plan for everything in our lives.

When things are happy, help us to be thankful. When things are sad or hard, help us to trust in you and know that you are with us. Help us to be kind to others in every season and to remember that you love us very much.

Thank you for being our loving God, always.

Amen.
