Understanding the Context

Matthew 28 contains the account of Jesus' resurrection and His final commission to His disciples. After rising from the dead, Jesus appears to His disciples and gives them this command: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded4 you." This is known as the Great Commission,5 and it is a call to all believers to share the gospel with the world.

The Importance of Discipleship

Discipleship is the process of helping others to grow in their faith and become more like Christ. It involves teaching, mentoring, and guiding others in their spiritual journey.

Baptism is an important part of discipleship. It is an outward expression of an inward commitment to follow Jesus. When we are baptized, we are identifying ourselves with Christ and His death and resurrection.

Applying This to Our Lives
