The Invisible Helper: The Holy Spirit
Imagine you have a super-special friend who's always with you, even if you can't see them. That's kind of like the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit is of God and God, like God the Father and God the Son (Jesus). The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is God's power and helper, and He lives inside people who believe in Jesus.
What Does the Holy Spirit Do?
He's a Helper
Jesus told his friends, "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever" (John 14:16, ESV). The word "Helper" means someone who comes alongside us to help us when we need it. He comforts us when we're sad, gives us courage when we're scared, and helps us understand God's Word.
He Teaches Us
The Holy Spirit helps us learn about Jesus. Jesus said, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you" (John 14:26, ESV). He's like a teacher who helps us remember what Jesus taught.
He Gives Us Power
The Holy Spirit gives us power to do good things and to tell others about Jesus. In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." This means that the holy spirit gives us the strength to share our faith.
He Helps Us Be More Like Jesus: The Holy Spirit helps us grow and become more like Jesus. He helps us to be kind, loving, patient, and good. These good things are called "the fruit of the Spirit" (Galatians 5:22-23, ESV).
How Can We Know the Holy Spirit?
When we believe in Jesus and ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit, He comes to live inside us. We can talk to the Holy Spirit in prayer, just like we talk to God the Father and Jesus.
Remember:
The Holy Spirit is a gift from God.
He's always there to help us.
He helps us understand God's Word.
He helps us to be more like Jesus.
Just like a superhero has special powers, the Holy Spirit gives us special help to live for God!
A Prayer for Little Hearts
Dear God, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be my helper. Please fill my heart with your Spirit and help me to understand your Word. Help me to be kind, loving, and brave, just like Jesus. Thank you for always being with me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
